In a bold departure from the practice which Les Manning has developed and refined over the previous two decades, Common/Opposites combined his expertise and skill as a ceramist with passion and playfulness. Manning's new sculptures traversed a rich emotional and metaphorical register while drawing deeply upon his person experiences and knowledge of Canada's lands. This accompanying exhibit booklet documents these new ceramic sculptures, as presented in the exhibition Common / Opposites at the Esplanade Art Gallery in the spring of 2011.
